Account Deletion

This page explains how to delete your account in the Bantr app, published on Google Play by Bantr Collective Inc, and what happens to your data when you do.

How to delete your account in the app

1. Open the Bantr app and sign in to the account you want to delete.

2. Tap the Profile tab.

3. Scroll down and tap Settings.

4. Tap Delete Account.

5. Read the confirmation message, then tap Delete.

Your account is deleted as soon as you confirm. The app then signs you out and returns to the welcome screen. Deletion cannot be undone.

How to request deletion if you cannot open the app

Send us a request with the form on this page, or email help@bantr.org. Include the phone number you use to sign in to Bantr so we can find your account. We may contact you to confirm the request before we delete the account.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted, we delete or erase:

- Your profile details, including your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, location and country, and your sign-in credentials.

- Your Watchlist and your viewing progress.

- Your poll votes, episode ratings, quiz completions and achievements.

- Your friends, friend requests, invitations and block list.

- The text of your posts, comments and messages, including direct messages and group messages.

- Your likes, reactions and swipes.

- Your notifications, notification settings, and the device and push notification tokens linked to your account.

- Your community and room memberships.

- Photos and other media you shared in messages. They are removed from those messages right away, and the stored files are scheduled for permanent deletion 24 hours later.

What we keep, and for how long

- Conversations you took part in stay available to the other people in them. Your messages in those conversations remain only as empty placeholders marked as deleted, with no text.

- Your account record is kept as an inactive placeholder with a random identifier and no name, email address, phone number or other profile details, so that shared conversations and safety records stay consistent.

- Safety and moderation records, such as reports about an account and block history, are kept to protect other users. After deletion they point only to that inactive placeholder, not to your name or contact details. Reports you made are kept without your identity.

- Media that is part of an open moderation appeal or a legal hold is kept until that review or hold ends.

- Our automated database backups roll over on a 10 day cycle, so deleted data can remain in those backups for about 10 days before it expires.

- A small number of database snapshots made manually before September 2026 may still contain data from accounts that existed when they were made. These snapshots do not currently have an automatic expiry date.
